Stargate #9

"StarGate"
Mixed Media, Acrylic, Epoxy | 2018

This piece pays homage to the original Stargate film and the first Legend of Zelda game, blending sci-fi mythology with fantasy adventure aesthetics. Created during a period when I was deeply immersed in astrology and lunar cycles (as one does while living on LA's west side among all the escaped mental patients), the work reflects my growing understanding of the full moon's influence on creative destiny and artistic momentum.

This remains my heaviest painting to date, both literally and in terms of layering. The surface is built up with more strata than any other work I've made, each addition creating depth and texture that borders on sculptural. Looking at it now, I see it as a prelude to the more streamlined approach I've developed in recent years. Sometimes you need to go all the way in one direction to understand where the balance lies.
